First of all, I feel like I am writing this blog after waking up from a long undisturbed dream. Well, here I am in New York! And New York is always a good idea! My purpose was to dedicate this post exclusively to New York City, but I was so immersed in its charm and beauty that I lost my intentions in translation.
The vibe makes me ecstatic, makes me feel brand new! It’s the spontaneity that I love the most, that keeps me on edge all the time. I feel New York is one of the most photogenic cities, you can’t take a bad photo here. From blue skies to high rises, 5th avenue and downtown and my favorite Central park! I love everything here.
When it comes to fashion, New York as we know is one of the fashion capitals of the world and it totally justifies this title. As I started observing this in the city… from stylish hats to funky boots, there is fashion in every tiny detail of the outfits that people carry! Michael Kors said it best,”The amazing mix of people in a small place makes New York the ultimate street Fashion Show”. I was stunned to see no repeats as I kept observing and getting inspired from the locals as well as the tourists (New York is just filled with them, it gets annoying when you have to walk to work and a stranger stops you and says “Can you click our photo?”, Sure!).
Whether you are uptown or downtown, a leather apparel can never be out of place, be it a skirt, a dress or a jacket. It gives a certain edge to your outfit that sets you apart but also keeps you on point with fellow New Yorkers.
Black is, the new black! Many colors will come and go but black will always be in style, and New Yorkers are privy to this style secret. Blues and Greys are neutrals year long too. But for me the winning color of the season is the army green and when paired with black.. the outfit can never go wrong!
If you don’t remember anything else,you should know your shoes matter the most! No wait I am not talking about comfort here! Fashion is pain, and if it means you have to truck across Chelsea in those high heels, then so be it! Everyone does that! If you are smart about it, you’ll carry yourself with equally fashionable flats to the subway.
Night or day and shine or rain, stylish eyewear is essential to completing your New York look. It doesn’t matter if you “need” the sunglasses – all that matters is if you look good wearing them!
One thing you will never catch a New York woman without, is her hand bag. Its a necessary investment! May it be a classic Chanel or a tote from H&M, it’s not about the price but your commitment to the bag.
New York has its own style! It definitely does not take that long to get a hang of it. New York City gives you the trend, and makes you set the trend too. Add a quirk and make it your own, because style can never go out of style! Keep Smiling!
