There is a noticeable fear in living in a new country, though it’s more awful in the first few months, even a year, but it never really evaporates as time goes on. I have never lived away from home my entire life until two years back when I moved to New York, anxiously wondering how am I going to make new friends, adjust and master the nuances of living alone. But there I was living alone mastering at almost everything and Science of-course; pun intended! And now here, it’s been a few days in Bombay and it’s unbelievable! I can’t wait to go back home to New York already.
Though technically I find both the cities pretty similar. No offence but New York is just an upgraded version of Bombay. Bombay 2.0?
For a person like me New York was the best I could get. But first let me tell you what exactly happened with me at the airport. My first experience of the “United States”. Being a student I obviously had a lot of bags with me, and but of course the first thought was to get a trolley. Just like a normal traveller I went to pull a trolley from the rack and realized it to be locked. A guard comes to me and tells me “Its America baby, you gotta pay for everything here”. Right there I knew what I was getting into. I knew the next two years (and hopefully maybe more) are going to be crazy and unusual in its own way.
All the quotes about the city are so true when you think about it. The best one I thought was: “You are never alone but you are always on your own” – Blair Waldorf. A few others about the fashion in New York and how the streets of Manhattan are the ramps and the people the models inspiring everyone around them to express themselves with fashion. And some about food, for instance if you have your breakfast, lunch and dinner at three different restaurants everyday in New York, you will still survive for 15 years without repeating any. All this makes you fall in love with the city. Rightly said, “London is satisfied, Paris is resigned but New York is hopeful. Always it believes that something good is about to come off, and it must hurry to meet it.” – Dorothy Parker. The random Empire State peek-a-boo moments, going to our regular bar on MacDougal Street and getting thrown out every single time, just a stroll in Washington Square Park and every time wondering why there are so many people here, having 1$ Pizza when you are on a budget crunch and attending n number of parties NYU hosts are just a few memories to name.
And this made my two years of school even more exciting! New York University has been great and has helped me grow so much. I know how to cook now, at least that’s what I think. Well, you can ask my roommates. I have definitely learned how to manage time and money, but it’s just New York that ironically keeps me left with none. Welcome to the life of a student! Well, the last two years were pretty quick. Not as much as I had expected it to be, and with a snap of a finger all done and all over. No more school life. Let’s get real now. I am up for real adventure now.

This is definitely me not summing up my last two years, I would need 10 more pages to do that! But sorta just a start you see! Anyway it’s time for me to make the most of my mini vacation here in Bombay and hog on all the lazeez food out here which my friends can definitely see or have already seen it on my Instagram stories! Do check it out!
Keep Smiling!
